Parnitha Accessible to All

The Accessible Path aims to make nature accessible to all. It is located in Parnitha, near the Bafi Mountaineering Refuge and is going to become the first forest mobility trail in Greece. The Accessible Path is designed to provide equal access to people with disabilities and reduced mobility.

Wheelchair accessible

A journey through nature.

Easy access from Athens. Next to the Bafi shelter.

Next to the Bafi shelter.

The Accessible Path will be located in the beautiful area of Parnitha, next to the Bafi Mountaineering Refuge. This area is ideal for the creation of an accessible trail due to its natural beauty and easy access from Athens.

The entrance will be located right next to the Shelter’s parking lot, making access to it even easier. In addition, it is connected to the shelter itself , which has an accessibility subway, thus giving visitors the opportunity to enjoy their meal or coffee with a view of nature.

Sustainable and Harmonized with the Environment.

The choice of materials was made after international research. They follow best accessibility practices while avoiding aesthetic alteration of the natural landscape.

Layering with curassan

Layered with curassan, a material consisting of crushed stones and mortar. The curassan has been chosen for the coating of the path because of its excellent properties.

Picnic tables

Made of durable materials that can withstand outdoor conditions, such as specially treated wood or metal. Strategically placed.

Waste bins

Made of durable and easy to clean materials to promote cleanliness on the trail.

Stone Walls

They are used both as seats and as decorative elements that enhance the aesthetics of the path, but also offer support at specific points.

Why We Chose the Curassan Injection

The “Accessible Path” will be paved with curassan, a material consisting of crushed stones and mortar. The curassan has been chosen for the coating of the path because of its excellent properties:

  1. Physical Aesthetics: The curassan fits aesthetically with the natural environment, offering a harmonious integration into the landscape of Parnitha. Its natural appearance contributes to the preservation of the natural beauty of the area.

  2. High Durability: It is highly resistant to damage and weather conditions. It can withstand heavy use by pedestrians and wheelchairs, ensuring long-term use without frequent maintenance.

  3. Permeability: The curtain allows water to drain naturally, preventing water accumulation and silt build-up. This keeps the trail safe and functional even during rainfall.

  4. Anti-slip properties: Provides good traction, reducing the risk of slipperiness and increasing safety for all users, including people with reduced mobility.

We already have the permits, what remains is the implementation!

The implementation of the “Accessible Path” has already received all the necessary approvals from the competent authorities. We have the approval of the Forestry Department of Parnitha, the approval of the General Directorate of Forests and Forest Environment of the Ministry of Environment & Energy, the opinion of SEPOD (Advisory Committee for Hiking and Mountaineering Activities), while it has been confirmed by the Ministry of Environment & Energy that no additional environmental study is required. All we need now is your help to make this vision a reality.
